About myself: In the past, I liked to see a good photo, but never knew how to take a good photo. Even after attending photography class, I still have a lot of things to learn but I like to explore it. Besides photography, I like learning about baking and cooking. Sometimes I find the recipe on the web and try to make it.

 Ritchelle Mantiquilla

38 years old, from Iloilo, Philippines

About myself: Being a domestic worker, I only earn enough to compensate the needs of my family. To be able to pursue my hobbies, I used to collect old newspapers and sell them. The money saved, I use to buy my painting and sewing materials. A sophisticated camera is beyond my reach so that I settled in taking photos using my Android Phone. I am so elated to receive a thumbs-up from the output I made and realised that it was a promising way to increase my earnings. Friends around bought my paintings, the products I sew and last year, though I never won any awards in photography, yet I was so thankful and happy. In this realisation, by my myself and for every woman like me, do continue to discover your own potentials, make your weaknesses be your strengths and be bold to create something that will truly tell that is YOU. To me, I can proudly tell everyone.. ALL EYES ON ME, HERE IAM.

Image Caption: Gabriel is the youngest amongst 4 children of my employer. This cheeky boy used to be the centre of attention. Looking after him since the day of conception, developed a bond that seemed hard to break off. He was like a child to me. I cried when he was upset and I fought to defend him when he was bullied. We had a unique relationship being his auntie. He had no single thought of one day we will be separated. The same situation that most nannies like me are facing. But everything that begins is subject to end. And ours is near. My tears are overflowing, for I truly cared for him.True love is not just meant for opposite sexes like how we used to define it.True love exists and can be in this way. The thought of leaving for good, broke me apart. He was hesitant to let me go, but I have too. I feel broken and torn..And how can I tell you goodbye?

About myself: I live in a small village of Malang-Batu. If people ask me where I am from, they hear Batu and say “Wooooowww”. My place is near mountains, it’s cool and is famous for green apple, and many tourists come to visit my village. Since my childhood, I like art painting but I left it behind because of my past issues. When I was in Dubai, I started taking photos with my phone, it’s taking pictures it’s same feelings I have as when I was doing art painting. I have been in Singapore for 4 years now. I am now taking photography classes to improve my skills.

Image Caption: I took this photo when I was back home on a holiday. Very early in the morning, I met two little girls going to school. I remember myself taking long walks to school, these girls walk 5+ km to get to school. I was a little girl just like them walking to school without a uniform and in ugly shoes. It broke my heart. The little girls were very happy, smiley and without any worries.

There is a time when you sometimes experience times of difficulty and stress and no one is around to experience the pain with you, and even sometimes when others are there for you, but you still feel alone.Everyone knows going through this is not easy. Sometimes it is best to have a real friend, even though this friend is the only friend you have, who is caring, close to you and you trust the most, who will offer up his/her concern and love. Someone who will there to ask how you are feeling, or maybe not even how you are feeling, but just simply that this someone knows you need a hug to help you to deal with your pain. Hug!

Davy E.Animas

47 years old, from Iloilo City, Philippines

About myself: I love photography. I canspendmyentireSunday roaming around the city and snapping beautiful photographs of nature, cityscapes and inanimate objects that catch my interests. The only thing that bothers me is my hesitation if I take photographs of people in public places. Aidha helped me conquer my fear and overcome my weakness. I won Aidha Photo Contest last year, and during the presentation of awards to winners, I received not just the prize money but also an overwhelming encouragement and motivation after sharing my story about my fear. Those kind words from the audience, sponsors and staff of Aidha is always in my mind especially when I am out there taking photos of people in public places. Those words give me the courage to face the challenge. Being a domestic helper, it is a hard life for me being away from my family but somehow I find ways to make myself useful and productive by spending my days off volunteering at local organizations.

Image Caption: Busker Uncle reminds me of my own struggle. Life can be unfair sometimes and not all are blessed with so much money. It is up to us to be creative in order to survive. His struggles, his courage, him being kind to share God's given gifts with those who listen to his songs without so much expectations makes me more motivated to continue my advocacy - to reach out to my fellow migrant workers and help them discover their own potentials.

About myself: I have been working here in Singapore for 5 years with just one employer. I'm a single mother. I left behind my daughter to my parents to work overseas to give her a better life. Working overseas is not easy, we need to deal with the new environment, new culture and new people but I am thankful I have a good employer. But there are still times when I feel lonely, especially on my days off. But instead of joining random groups I always find myself exploring Singapore on my own, which is okay with me.

There are almost 240,000 foreign domestic workers in Singapore, but many remain unseen and invisible, defined solely by their duties and responsibilities of cleaning, cooking and caring. This exhibition delves beneath the labels to unfurl the many selves that domestic workers keep hidden from Singapore society – as dreamers, artists, and changemakers, both locally and in your home countries. This is a call to all domestic workers to share their Unspoken Life.

As part of Aidha’s fundraising campaign, “Gift of Education” campaign and International Migrant Workers Day on 18th December 2017, Aidha and our partners, Lensational, Sing Lit Station and Intersections have organised the 2nd Annual Photography Exhibition! The exhibition is open to the public on 16th & 17th December at Intersections gallery, Kandahar Street from 1pm to 6pm.
