Remittance Screenings September 2017

Join Aidha, Aware and HOME for another set of screenings of Remittance film on Thursday, 14th September at 7pm and Sunday, 17th September 2017 at 3pm! Thanks again to the generous support of Mastercard, we are able to offer the screenings for free to all foreign domestic workers.

Remittance is a fictional portrayal of the lives of low-wage migrant workers in Singapore shot with a cast including domestic workers and Aidha alumni. Remittance follows Marie, a woman from the Philippines, as she struggles with her daily life as a foreign domestic worker and tries to balance living for her family versus living for herself. The story explores the transformations Marie goes through as a woman dealing with conflicting obligations and aspirations.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Aidha Open House and FREE eye-screening for FDWs - 6th Aug!

 

Back by popular demand! Last year, we held an Aidha Open House and FREE Eye Screening where over 570 FDWs attended and received Free sunglasses as well as prescription glasses if they needed them. If you missed it last year, join us for the Aidha Open House and Free Eye Screening event on Sunday, 6th August, from 10am to 4pm at our campus at United World College Dover.

– Try out Aidha’s Money Management game to get a taste of Aidha’s courses and hear about our courses and NEW promotion from Aidha’s mentors and students

FREE Eye Screening

– In collaboration with Essilor Vision Foundation & the School of Health Sciences, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, we are organizing a FREE eye screening for all foreign domestic workers (including non-Aidha students). Every FDW who comes for a free eye screening will receive a free pair of sunglasses! Also, if needed, a more in-depth eye test will be provided on campus as well as FREE prescription eyeglasses!

Celebrate Aidha's 11th Anniversary!

Sing Lit Station
Sing Lit Station (est. July 2016) is a non-profit organisation, registered charity and Institution of Public Character (IPC). Our core mission is to grow the local literary community. Through our programmes and initiatives, we aim to be a platform where readers and writers can meet.

Mr. Theophilus Kwek
He began writing as a student at Raffles Institution under the mentorship of Alvin Pang, Aaron Maniam and others. He has since authored three collections, They Speak Only Our Mother Tongue (2011), Circle Line (2013)—which was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize in 2014—and Giving Ground (2016). He has also been nominated for various other awards, winning the Martin Starkie Prize in 2014, the Jane Martin Prize in 2015, and the inaugural New Poets’ Prize in 2016. His translation of Wong Yoon Wah’s poem “Moving House” was also placed Second in the Stephen Spender Prize for Poetry in Translation in 2016.

Poets on Permits
‘Poets on Permits’ is a documentary on migrant workers in Singapore, and their poetry. Read between their lines. Five captivating people from Bangladesh, Philippines, India, China and Indonesia, share their personal stories and views on the local migrant worker life. The documentary features their poetic talent, and hopes to bring us closer as a society – realising that at the end of the day, we all have common goals – of home, love and happiness.

'Eat Your Way to a Good Life' Health Workshop and Aidha Open House on Sunday 23 April 2017!

Join us for this FREE Health Workshop and Aidha Open House on Sunday 23rd April 2017 from10.30am to 12.30pm hosted by Aidha and Beam and Go at Aidha Campus, United World College, Room 309.
Open to All Foreign Domestic Workers in Singapore (including Non-Aidha students) and Aidha volunteers.

PROGRAMME:
10:30am to 11am: Registrations
11am to 12:00pm: Beam and Go will present an ‘Eat your way to a good life’ interactive fun workshop which will include:
– Interactive activities and educational games about food nutrition (how to eat right, enjoy food, and stay healthy)
– Interactive discussion about health concerns such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure
Winners of the games and quizzes will get prizes! If you have any questions about eating healthily or food health issues…or you just want to learn more –then this FREE Workshop is for you!
12:00pm – 12:30pm: Aidha’s “Dollars and Sense” game and Open House
